Partner and member of the mining and natural resources team. She has 20 years of experience in mining, energy, water, and environmental law, especially on project acquisition, and project development and operation. Her deep knowledge on the mining industry has allowed her to provide comprehensive and interdisciplinary advice to relevant local and international companies, including complex litigation, permitting, property and land issues, social license, and relationship with authorities.

Before María Paz joined our team, she was part of Baker & McKenzie and Philippi Prietocarrizosa Ferrero DU & Uría.

 

Education and Experience
  • Law, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2003).

In the academic field, she is Professor of Mining and Environmental Law at Universidad de Chile and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Likewise, she has various publications on mining and environmental law.

She is a member of Compromiso Minero, the board of the Chilean-Australian Chamber of Commerce (AUSCHAM) and member of the Steering Committee of The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (formerly, Rocky Mountain Law Foundation). In addition, she is member of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC); Women in Senior Management Network (REDMAD); Women in Mining International; Women in Mining Chile and Chilean Bar Association.

Recognitions

In 2021, María Paz was included in the Directory of Experts on Mining Law, prepared by the Chilean Bar Association. She has also been acknowledged by several international rankings, including Chambers & Partners, The Legal 500, Leading Lawyers, and Who’s Who Legal, in mining law, energy, and natural resources practices.
